The Journeyman's Workshop

Well the answer to that is practically nothing. 2009 was a very quiet year dominated on the domestic front by having an extension to the house built. Whilst this didn’t exactly prevent me getting into the workshop I felt it necessary to watch the builders! I have however added the few lines from the old website’s What’s New page.

I have spent the last week updating the site, trying to move into the 21st century! I have made the overall page slightly wider working on the assumption that most people will have a suitable screen width. This has meant making new images for the headers, a problem with fixed width layouts. I have tidied up the CSS removing some redundant code and changed the column layout slightly. All this in anticipation of changing this page for a full blown blog page. I am still wrestling with the code for a new WordPress template but hopefully it will be up and running soon.

Updated the “Forthcoming Events”. I don′t know if it′s just me but there don′t seem to be as many events about as there were last year!

Decided to try my hand at woodturning. Bought a new lathe and lots of other goodies with the intention of making round wood and lots of shavings!

Fitted a new collet chuck to the lathe. Actually did this in July but seem to have forgotten to update the site. (Note to self – be more conscientious in future!)

Two new projects for the workshop. The first is a simple low voltage work light made from readily obtainable parts for use on any machine tool that requires a little extra illumination.

The second article is a bit more involved – adding a tachometer to the WM14 milling machine. Covers the mechanics of fitting the sensor inside the mill and outlines the wiring and power supply to fit the tachometer unit and a new low voltage lamp,

The last part of a look at the Warco WM250 added, concentrating on the tailstock and accessories that came with the lathe. I still have plenty to discover about this lathe, it should keep me busy for the next few years! If you have any questions don′t hesitate to ask.

Part 3 of a look at the Warco WM250 added, concentrating on the saddle and bed. Another part to go! hopefully a little quicker than this one. I have made a few small modifications to the lathe and will add details of these to the projects page in due course.
